Upcoming Prisoners' Justice Day events on Algonquin Territory / in Ottawa

Prisoners’ Justice Day (PJD) - a non-violent, day-long hunger strike and work stoppage - has been observed every year by prisoners on August 10th since 1975 to commemorate the lives of those who’ve died behind bars, as well as demand an end to solitary confinement and other human rights abuses that routinely take place inside sites of human caging.

In keeping with the history of PJD, local community organizers - including members of the Criminalization and Punishment and Punishment Education Project (CPEP), the Journal of Prisoners on Prisons (JPP) and Millhaven Lifers Liaison Group (MLLG) - have organized a series of events on Algonquin Territory / in Ottawa in solidarity with people forcibly confined behind penitentiary, prison, jail, and immigration detention centre walls in Canada and elsewhere across the world. All are welcome to attend!
