On August 24-26, Irvin Waller was at a conference in Mexico to talk about lessons for harnessing evidence based solutions to street and gender based violence, and to organized crime. Responding to an invitation from the State of Mexico, he shared the encouraging evidence on what stops violence. He gave a keynote to senior officials in the State of Mexico and later to the Mexican Attorney Generals criminal sciences branch. His main message was to focus on the outcome oriented strategies for the Sustainable Development Goals. According to him, the most cost effective and people-centred solutions to violence, organized crime and broken systems of enforcement and justice are upstream and outside the system.
