Matthew Ferguson (MA student, Criminology, University of Ottawa), Kevin Walby (Associate Professor, Criminal Justice, University of Winnipeg) and Justin Piché (Associate Professor, Criminology, University of Ottawa) have published an article in the International Journal of Tourism Research entitled "Tour Guide Styles and Penal History Museums in Canada".  The paper is based on an analysis of tour guide work in Canadian lock-up, jail, prison and penitentiary museums that were studied by research team members from the Carceral Cultures Research Initiative, which was funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada from 2012 to 2015.

Over the past two years, Matthew has also been examining representations of penality in police museums as part of a new study of Canadian penal tourism sites by Justin Piché and Kevin Walby. He will defend his MA thesis entitled "Penal Spectatorship in Three Ontario Police Museums" this Wednesday, September 7th.
