Kim Pate appointed to the Canadian Senate

Kim Pate, an Ottawa-based advocate for marginalized Canadian prisoners, who was named to the Canadian Senate last week, says she'll be working to reduce the number of Indigenous people who end up in the country's prisons.

Kim Pate, the executive director of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies (CAEFS), is one of six appointees that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be putting forward to fill Senate vacancies in Ontario. Pate holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa that was recommended by our department and teaches part-time in the Faculty of Law.
